Goodell Not Happy With Rookie Pay Scale
Posted by Jay Miles  June 28, 2008
Startribune.com Reports:
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said it's "ridiculous" to reward rookies with lucrative contracts and
wants the issue addressed in contract talks.

"There's something wrong about the system," Goodell said Friday. "The money should go to people who
perform."

Goodell referred to Michigan tackle Jake Long's five-year, $57.75 million contract -- with $30 million
guaranteed. Long was the first overall draft pick by Miami in April
Meachem Impresses Early
Posted by Jay Miles  June 28, 2008
Yahoo Sports Reports:
WR Robert Meachem, healthy now after being inactive for all 16 games of his rookie season because of a
knee injury that bothered him throughout training camp, appears ready to make a strong run at becoming
the third wide receiver this fall. After receiving praise from Saints coach Sean Payton, general manager
Mickey Loomis and quarterback Drew Brees for his attitude and work ethic in the spring, Meachem will at
least go into training camp with much more confidence than last season. As a result, he will likely battle
veterans Devery Henderson and Lance Moore for the third spot behind starters Marques Colston and David
Patten.
Rookie RB Stewart Should Be Ready By Training Camp
Posted by Jay Miles  June 28, 2008
Yahoo Sports Reports:
He's a sharp guy and I like this demeanor and his football character," Fox said of the team's first-round
draft pick. "I like what I saw from his college tape. He just has to get healthy."

Fox said he expects Stewart will be ready to go in training camp. "He's out of his boot and he's one
schedule. He will be coming here shortly and being doing rehab with our medical people and they are telling
me he will be ready for July 25 (the start of training camp)."
NFL eyes Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw's incident
Posted by D.A. Louis  June 23, 2008
New York Daily News Reports:
The NFL is looking into whether Ahmad Bradshaw has violated the league's personal conduct policy and is
subject to suspension.

While Bradshaw's lawyer, family and friends have said that the running back has not committed any new offense
or crime to violate the probation, the NFL is keeping an eye on the situation. If commissioner Roger Goodell
deems that Bradshaw has violated the league's conduct policy code, he could suspend Bradshaw.

"We are looking into it to determine whether he is subject to discipline," said Greg Aiello, the NFL's senior vice
president of public relations.
Ravens QB Flacco gets a crash course
Posted By D.A. Louis  June 23, 2008
Baltimore Sun Reports:
"In my mind, the speed of the game is mental," Flacco said. "If you let yourself believe that you are unsure about
what you're doing, then the game is fast. But if you go out there and you're confident and have an idea of what
you're supposed to do, then the game slows down for you."

"He's doing everything in his power to give himself a chance," Ravens quarterbacks coach Hue Jackson said.
"And that's the kind of guy we were looking for - a guy willing to do whatever it takes to be the best."
Titans receiver's plans for big season catch bad break
Posted by D.A. Louis  June 23, 2008
The Tennessean Reports:
Roydell Williams knows he can't go back and change his bad luck. What the Titans receiver doesn't know is how
much his past — in particular his injury from last season — might impact his future.

"It is frustrating,'' Coach Jeff Fisher said. "But his injury was significant; his surgery was significant. We knew it
was going to take some time. No one has panicked. Roydell knows what to do and he is working hard. When he
is ready he'll be right back where he was.''

"It has been really tough,'' Williams said. "I've had to sit and watch the guys at practice and I have to sit and watch
guys run the new offense. So I have to learn the offense from on the sideline. And usually after the season I do a
lot of speed work and I'll get a jump on conditioning. But I can't do any of that now, so I have a big challenge
ahead.''
Bears, Tommie Harris agree on new contract
Posted D.A. Louis  June 20, 2008
Chicago Tribune Reports:
They continued to stay true to that philosophy Thursday night when defensive tackle Tommie Harris signed a
four-year contract extension worth $40 million that a league source confirmed guarantees him $18 million
overall and is worth $27 million the first three years.

The Bears have called a Friday morning news conference to announce a package that will make Harris the
NFL's highest-paid defensive tackle.
Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw jailed in southwest Virginia
Posted by D.A. Louis  June 20, 2008
New York Daily News Reports:
Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw has been in a Virginia jail since Sunday, serving a 30-day sentence for
violating probation terms of a previously undisclosed juvenile offense.
"Ahmad Bradshaw is currently serving a 30-day jail sentence in Abingdon Regional Jail in Virginia on a
probation violation charged out of the Tazewell County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court," Stacy said in a
statement. "The underlying charge in this matter stems from an offense that occurred while Mr. Bradshaw
was a juvenile. Mr.Bradshaw has not been charged with any offense since being drafted by the New York
Giants and is eager to put this matter behind him and be in training for the next season."
Burress reportedly expects contract resolution before camp
Posted by D.A. Louis  June 20, 2008
ESPN Reports:
Not practicing at mandatory minicamp created an uproar, but Plaxico Burress thinks his contract situation
will be peacefully resolved before next month's training camp.

"Honestly, I think my situation is going to be rectified before training camp," Burress said, according to
NJ.com. "I'm not going to worry about it, but I did state that I was unhappy with my current situation with my
contract. It'll be worked out

"I don't want to go anywhere. I made that very evident," Burress told the radio station, according to NJ.com.
"If I wanted to go somewhere else or if I didn't want to be there, I would have let that be known, too
Jets pick up Safety Worrell
Posted by D.A. Louis  June 20, 2008
New York Post Reports:
The Jets New York Jets yesterday signed free agent safety Cameron Worrell, a five-year NFL veteran who
spent the 2007 season with the Dolphins, playing in 12 games, making seven starts and 56 tackles.

Worrell originally entered the NFL with the Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2003, appearing in 46 games
in four seasons for the Bears and recording 20 tackles, two sacks, and two fumble recoveries on defense
along with 45 special teams tackles.
Pacman Jones works with Dallas Cowboys' first team
Posted D.A. Louis  June 20, 2008
Star-telegram Reports:
During Wednesday’s mini-camp, Pacman took several repetitions with the first-team defense and played in
the sub packages. His time on the field cut into the repetitions of starter Anthony Henry.

The move left Henry frustrated by the reduction in reps while Pacman took his place working alongside
Terence Newman.

"I’ve been playing in this league for eight years. I’m not blind to it," Henry was quoted as saying on the
Cowboys’ team Web site. "I knew what time it was when the transaction happened at the draft. I already
knew what time it was. It’s just a matter of when. And maybe when is now."
Smith earning praise during 49ers workouts
Posted by D.A. Louis  June 20, 2008
The Mercury News Reports:
All indications are that Alex Smith will get the first crack with the starting unit. He played well during the
organized team activities and drew praise from Coach Mike Nolan on Tuesday for his improved ability to
handle the blitz.

But, at best, Smith's name will be written in light pencil.

Shaun Hill and J.T. O'Sullivan also have a shot at the starting job.

"The pleasing thing to me is that we have three guys who can win a game for us," Nolan said.

No final decision on a starter needs to be made, of course, until the regular season opens Sept. 7 against the
Arizona Cardinals.
Specter Says Patriots Are Not in Clear
Posted by D.A. Louis  June 20, 2008
The New York Times Reports:
“My view on the overall situation is that we may well see the other shoe drop somewhere,” Specter said. “We
went about as far as we could go, given the public attitude today about the economy and gas prices and Iraq.
We’re always very careful about initiating a Congressional investigation.

“But that isn’t to say, by any means, it’s over.”

An N.F.L. spokesman declined to comment. Specter said he had not talked to Commissioner Roger Goodell
recently, but they now hold similar positions on the videotaping controversy that came to light last September.
Ankle surgery ahead for Chad
Posted By D.A. Louis  June 18, 2008
Cincinnati.com Reports:
Limited last week at the Bengals' mandatory minicamp because of a tender ankle, wide receiver Chad
Johnson will undergo arthroscopic surgery but is expected to be ready for the start of training camp on July
27.

Johnson, who has been unhappy with the Bengals since the end of last season, reported in time for
minicamp but did not participate fully in the two practices last Thursday, though he passed a physical that
morning.

On Saturday, head coach Marvin Lewis said Johnson's ankle condition needed to be addressed.
Simms A No-Show At First Day of Bucs Mini-Camp
Posted By D.A. Louis  June 18, 2008
The Tampa Tribune Reports:
QB Chris Simms, who put his chances of attending the mini-camp at "50-50'' is not here. We're not really
surprised. Simms really wants to be moved off this team and this is just further proof.

This absence, though, will cost Simms. He stands to be fined $8,000 a day for missing the workouts this
week, which run through Thursday. If he skips training camp, he faces a fine of $14,000 per day.

Don't look for that to happen, though. If Simms is still a Bucs come late July, he'll be at camp. That's what he
said two weeks ago when he last talked to us and Simms has always been a man of his word.
Graham Gets Back To Work With Bucs
Posted By D.A. Louis  June 18, 2008
The Tampa Tribune Reports:
Earnest Graham kept his word. The Bucs running back told the Tribune on Saturday that he would end his
holdout from offseason workouts this week, and there he was Tuesday, running alongside Warrick Dunn for
the first time and catching dump-offs from Jeff Garcia at the team's minicamp.
Falcons cut safety Jimmy Williams
Posted By D.A. Louis  June 18, 2008
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Reports:
The Falcons released safety Jimmy Williams Tuesday, parting with their top pick of the 2006 NFL Draft.

"It's a football decision," head coach Mike Smith said. "It's a decision we made. We've been evaluating."

"I knew it could get to this point, but I wasn't sure it would," Williams told the Daily Press in his hometown of
Hampton, Va. "They've been upset with my weight, but I didn't think the weight thing was a big issue. I
thought they were hiding behind that. Other than that, there weren't any real disputes between me and the
Falcons."
Two Gamers Take on EA/NFL Exclusive Deal
Posted by Jay Miles  June 16, 2008
geek.com Reports:
Back in December of 2004, Electronic Arts signed a 5-year exclusive agreement with the National Football
League and the gaming landscape was set so that the only NFL video games in town belonged to EA.

While some in the gaming community complained that the exclusive agreement would mean a sacrifice in
quality of sports video games, all seemed well enough - that is until 2008. Two gamers have now filed a
lawsuit against EA accusing them of practicing anti-competitive behavior and creating a monopoly with the
NFL exclusive deal.

The lawsuit, which was filed in U.S. District Court in Oakland, California by Jeffrey Lawrence of San Diego
and Geoffrey Pecover of Washington, seeks to cancel the exclusive agreement between EA and the NFL as
well as compensate gamers for allegedly inflated video game prices.
