PGF Position Power Rankings: Running Backs
Updated June 26, 2008
Throughout the course of the year, we will be updating the rankings every week depending on training camp,
pre-season, regular season, injuries, and news. Only the Top 25 will be displayed.
1) LaDainian Tomlinson, Chargers 2) Brian Westbrook, Eagles 3) Adrian Peterson, Vikings
4) Clinton Portis, Redskins
The main reason why Washington made the playoffs last year was because of Portis. He regained his status as a
red zone running back with 11 touchdowns and had a career high in receptions with 47.
5) Larry Johnson, Chiefs
Was a top 3 back beginning of last year, but struggled because of injuries. LJ should be fine this year and take some of
the pressure off of Brodie Croyle.
6) Steven Jackson, Rams
Injuries hit him a bit, but still managed to get 1,000 yards.
7) Willis McGahee, Ravens
The only bright spot for the Ravens on offense last year. The few times they were in the red zone, McGahee was able to
punch it in.
8) Edgerrin James, Cardinals
Still able to run for 1,000+ yards for 2 season straight behind a bad Cardinals line.
9) Joseph Addai, Colts
Is becoming a more complete back every year.
10) Frank Gore, 49ers
Was supposed to contend for the Rushing Title, but was slow in the beginning of the year
11) Ronnie Brown, Dolphins
Was putting up MVP numbers on a losing team before his injury.
12) Willie Parker, Steelers
Great home run threat, but not a red zone threat (2 TDs)
13) Fred Taylor, Jaguars
The most underrated running back...ever
14) Marion Barber, Cowboys
4.8 yards per carry and 10 touchdowns splitting time and should pass those numbers easily this year.
15) Michael Turner, Falcons
Finally gets his opportunity to be the #1 back, but how will he do with a struggling offense?
16) Reggie Bush, Saints
After 2 seasons, he is more of a receiving threat than a running threat. This should be Reggie's year.
17) Marshawn Lynch, Bills
A solid rookie campaign with 1,115 yards and 7 touchdowns, but was overshadowed by Adrian Peterson.
18) Laurence Maroney, Patriots
If he can put together a 16 game season, Maroney numbers would be a lot better.
19) Maurice Jones-Drew, Jaguars
One of the best all-purpose backs in the league.
20) Ryan Grant, Packers
Weeks 2-5, 27 yards. Weeks 8-17, 927 yards 8 touchdowns.
21) Brandon Jacobs, Giants
Gained 1009 yards and a 5.0 ypc in only 11 games.
22) Thomas Jones, Jets
1119 yards in a struggling offense, but should have an even better 2008 with offensive line upgrades.
23) DeAngelo Williams, Panthers
Just when he thought he was going to be the guy, the Panthers select Oregon's Jonathan Stewart in round 1
24) Justin Fargas, Raiders
See DeAngelo Williams, but add Arkansas' Darren McFadden
25) Chester Taylor, Vikings
Even with being the #2 back in Minnesota, he was still able to average 5.4 ypc and gain 844 yards and 7 touchdowns.
On the outside looking in: Darren McFadden- Raiders, Juilus Jones- Seahawks, LenDale White- Titans,
Rashard Mendenhall- Steelers, Matt Forte- Bears, Kenny Watson- Bengals, Rudi Johnson- Bengals
