What does Woodson get for his impressive resume?
Being picked in the 6th round (198 overall) by the New York Giants. Yes, he is now Eli Manning's backup.
Woodson was one of college football's most exciting quarterbacks. From the beginning to the end of his senior campaign, you could not go a week without hearing his name being a potential first round draft pick. All he did was get better every year, break school and NCAA records, and performed in big games when they counted.
Fresh of his impressive bowl game against Florida State, it seemed Woodson was sure first rounder and probably the first or second QB picked in this years draft.
Then came the Senior Bowl.
Woodson had a bad performance in January's game. There were a lot people saying his "accuracy was poor". But he was not the only one with a bad performance.
Joe Flacco was 2 for 7, 22 yards, and an interception, but an article on foxsports.com from Chad Reuter of Sports Exchange, says "simply makes all of the throws from the pocket" and "Wait until they see him throw accurately on the move". Colt Brennan went 2 for 6, 29 yards, and interception. He was picked in the 6th round with Woodson, but before him.
So what if Woodson did not play in the Senior Bowl?
He probably could have been picked the first two rounds. Matt Ryan was picked in the 1st round (3rd overall) by Falcons and Brian Brohm was picked in the 2nd round (56 overall) by the Packers and neither did not play in the Senior Bowl.
Then the talk was Woodson was in a spread offense at Kentucky...
So was Joe Flacco, but experts thought it was okay because he "show adequate feet stepping up in the pocket"
So what if Woodson tore his ACL late in his senior year?
He probably could have been picked in the 5th round. Dennis Dixon (who I think was a very impressive college QB) was picked in the 5th round by the Pittsburgh Steelers...Yes, over Woodson.
It seemed like the Woodson's analysis by scouts was done with a "fine tooth comb" while other QB's seemed to be given "passes" or "excuses". Building one of the best passing resumes in SEC history, I just do not understand how someone with this type of talent could fall into the 6th round.
